The Midland U16 County Cup took place at Norwood Park G.C, Nottinghamshire on Sunday 2nd October. With six of the first choice players unavailable due to a variety of reasons, it was an excellent opportunity to offer some of our talented younger less experienced players the chance to play in a high quality MGU strokeplay event.

Due to the absences, our team were ranked 10th in terms of the average individual handicaps and therefore any result higher than our ranking would be a positive accomplishment. 

The six selected players were Harry Evans, Ollie Badger, Alex Perry, Hayden Sarfo, Teddy Fee and Harry Hawkesford who stepped in with only 24 hours notice. With almost 3 hours separating our first and last players tee times it was difficult to get a feel as to how the team were progressing but they were determined to focus on trying their best and finishing as high up the table as possible.

The boys generally coped well with the 'easier' front 9 at Norwood Park but the longer, more undulating back 9 offered it's own challenges and we tended to drop shots towards the end of the round as did many of the other counties. An individual highlight was the performance of our U14 Captain Harry Evans who finished in an outstanding 11th place in the individual competition (gross) and achieved the competitions lowest net score of the day (69).

As the Worcestershire boys completed their rounds, we gradually moved up the leader-board from at one stage propping up the table to finish in a creditable 7th position which, considering our selection issues, was an excellent effort. The eventual victors Lincolnshire were on average 5 strokes per player lower than the Worcestershire boys which puts into context the challenge the team faced, so a big well done to all the players and their efforts and conduct which was much appreciated as always.
