U16 County Cup Report

U16’s County Cup – 19th October 2025

Kirby Muxloe Golf Club was the venue for this year’s Midland Golf Union U16’s County Cup. The team arrived on Saturday for a practice round and were keen to get the event underway. The weather conditions on Sunday were totally different with the gusting wind and arrival of rain presenting a challenge for all players.  The stroke play format of 5 out of 6 scores to count always keeps a strong level of interest until the last players have submitted their scores.

Oliver Badger and Harry Evans were amongst the early players out and they posted strong scores of 74 (+3) and 73 (+2) respectively to set the early pace. Harry’s score was enough to secure a share of 5th place in the individual competition.   Unfortunately, as conditions worsened the remaining boys were unable to maintain the momentum meaning Worcestershire finished 6th in the team event, 7 shots behind the winners Shropshire and Herefordshire in what was a very close competition.

Our congratulations go to the manager and players at Shropshire and Herefordshire, and thanks go to Kirby Muxloe GC for their hospitality. I would also like to thank Kevin Fee and Luke Perry for their assistance over the weekend and all the parents who have provided support not just for this event but throughout the season.

Finally, my thanks go to all of the boys who have represented the U16 team over the season. Their conduct and etiquette has been exemplary and they should all be very proud of how they have conducted themselves whilst representing the County.
